The World Health Organization has warned that entering the second year of the Coronavirus pandemic may be more difficult than what the world faced in the first year of the disease’s spread.
The director of the World Health Organization’s emergency program, Mike Ryan, said at a press conference held today, Wednesday, that “entering the second year of the Coronavirus infection pandemic” may be more difficult “than it was previously” due to some of the dynamics of disease transmission. “
Ryan explained that this matter is related to the spread of new strains of the virus that are more transmissible, indicating that the epidemiological conditions will be more difficult in the countries of the northern hemisphere.
For her part, the technical director of the World Health Organization’s emergency program, Maria Van Kerkhove, confirmed during the press conference that “some countries will see after the end of the holiday period a great deterioration of the situation before it begins to improve.”
Since January 2020, the world has been facing an acute health crisis resulting from the outbreak of the new Coronavirus “COVID-19”, which began its spread from the Chinese city of Wuhan and led to huge losses in many sectors of the economy, especially transport, tourism and entertainment, and the collapse of global stock markets and the acceleration of the decline Energy markets.
The World Global health Organization classified this outbreak as a pandemic on March 11, and the virus has so far infected more than 90 million people around the world and killed nearly two million of them.
However, the epidemiological situation is witnessing a significant deterioration in a large number of countries around the world, especially in Europe and North and South America, where indicators of the spread of the virus in recent weeks reach new record levels.
