The university is a beacon that illuminates human minds. Since the emergence of the idea of university institutions in the Middle Ages, “universities” have been respected by peoples and civilizations, especially those that have a history dating back to centuries and are still able to give to that day.
1- University of Al-Qarawiyyin into Morocco as into the 877 AD
The University of Al-Qarawiyyin in the city of “Fez” is considered the oldest university in the world according to the classification of the Guinness Book of Records and UNESCO, as it started as a small collector and then Mrs. Fatima Al-Fihri renewed it and expanded her inheritance from her father’s money. It operates as an academic institution in Morocco until now.
2- Al-Azhar University into Eqypt as into the 970 AD
The famous university, located in Cairo, is the second oldest international university still in existence today, and it is the largest global Islamic religious institution in the world today.
3-University of Bologna into Italy as into the 1088 AD
The first university in the Western world with the accepted concept of higher education, it is located in Bologna, and the university is still one of the most important European educational institutions, although it passed some difficult historical periods that Italy went through, especially the periods of the First and Second World War.
4- University of Paris ‘Sorbonne’ into France by 1150 AD
The university is known as the Sorbonne University, which is named after the founder of “Sorbonne College” Robert de Sorbonne. The university still reaps advanced international centers always, and it never leaves the top 20 universities in the world.
5- Oxford University into Britian as into the year of 1167 AD
One of the world’s greatest universities is the University of Oxford in Britain, which was established when King Henry II ordered that English students were prevented from traveling to France to study at the University of Paris and transferred to study in Oxford instead.
6- Cambridge University as into the Britian of year 1209 AD
It is considered the second oldest university in Britain and was founded by the efforts of students, academics, and professors who left Oxford University and decided to establish a new university.
7- University of Salamanca into Spain by 1218 AD
Salamanca” is the oldest Spanish university at all, and one of the oldest universities in Europe, but it is the first to obtain the title of “university”, and “Christopher Columbus”, discoverer of the new world, sought help from scientists and geographers from this university.
8- University of Badu into Italy as by 1222 AD
“Padua” is pronounced in Italian, and it was established by students and professors after dissent from the University of “Bologna”, where they wanted to form another, more free and academic institution.
9- University of Naples Federico II into Italy by 1224 AD
The third oldest university in Italy, based in Naples, it is the oldest public university in the world, and the university was named after its founder, Emperor Frederick II.
10- University of Toulouse into France by 1229 AD
One of the oldest European universities in its foundation, it was founded by Count Raymond Al-Sanjili, and later contained the newer universities that joined the mother university.
